My name is Donovan Armstrong and I’m a Support Engineer who is passionate about IT, personal development, health, and many other things. I have an incredible wife and a beautiful daughter. I’m originally from Minnesota, but I’ve spent the past 5 years in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have two degrees: BS- Information & Communication Technologies, AAS – Computer Network Engineering. Life has been quite the ride up until this point, and I live with the mentality to make every day better than the day before. I believe we have all been put here for a purpose, and some of us (including myself) are still fine tuning that purpose. The stories shared in this blog are dawn from: personal experiences, books and articles read, sermons, and many other resources. I want to welcome you to this blog, I hope you enjoy the ride, and let’s dive in.
What would happen if you stopped everything you were doing, and started chasing after something you wanted, even if you had no idea what you were doing?
I started going to college for Law Enforcement, and it started during my senior year of high school. I attended half my day at a community college that introduced you to the world of being a police officer. I was about a year into college when I realized it just wasn’t for me and that I needed to do something different. But what? Up until this point, I didn’t really think about much besides being a police officer, I didn’t possess any particular set of skills that would sway me towards one field or another. All I really cared about was getting a degree. To be completely honest, I’m not even sure why it was significant to me at the time. I hit a roadblock on the path I was currently on and I knew in my heart there was no way I would see the finish line if I didn’t make a change. Classes were no longer appealing and I started to dread the idea of heading into school each day. This was never the case before, sure I would have off days (even weeks) but I always bounced back, it was time to change directions.
The day I walked in to talk to my advisor.
I remember walking into a meeting with my college advisor very vividly, I had to tell her what was on my mind about changing my field of study and I had been doing some thinking leading up to this moment beforehand. Technology had always interested me for no real reason other than it was something I wanted to learn more about. Besides my family purchasing every gaming console throughout my life, I didn’t have much business being in the field. That didn’t stop me though. I walked in and told my advisor I’d like to change my field to Network Engineering. I can still see her shocked and confused face followed by the question, “Are you good with computers? Like motherboards, memory and stuff?” Confidently and without hesitation I said, “Yes!” In reality, I had no idea what I was stepping in to. But it sure sounded fun! That was it. That decision changed the trajectory of my life.
Life has been full of experiences along the way and that’s the reason I started this blog, to have a place to write down and share the insight gathered on different areas of life. I’m on a constant quest to always work to become a better version of myself, and I hope some of the stories I share resonates with you as you take this journey with me. I can’t wait to share the stories, tips, and life lessons I’ve learned along the way… probably not in chronological order because that’s just not how my brain functions. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and look forward to the blogs to come.
