Predefined Limitations
Have you ever looked at something and immediately laughed and thought, “yeah, there’s no way that’s happening.” Think about when you see signs for a new house and it says something along the lines of, “new builds starting in low 600s.” For the longest time my initial response was, “600s?! Okay, Mr. Millionaire get out of here.” The thought of buying a house like that was something I couldn’t even fathom. But then I learned something, the only reason I thought that price was unattainable was because I had predefined limitations inside my head.

What are predefined limitations?

Predefined limitations are the limiting beliefs that we have developed over the years. These beliefs cause us to react certain ways in different situations. In the house example, I reacted this way because I’ve never seen it done before in my own life. I set the bar on what was attainable for my life, by using the metrics that my past and other people had set, instead of rewiring my minds framework into believing it could achieve anything it wanted.

How do you break these limitations?

It starts with rewiring your mindset. A house in the six hundred thousands sounds nice, but to be honest that’s not what I’m after. However, if it were I fully believe it would be possible. Why? Because of one change that you can implement that will start allowing you to see things through a new lens.

What is that change? Drum roll please… 

Instead of saying things like, “I can’t, because…” start asking yourself, “What do I need to do?” Six hundred thousand dollar house? Okay, what do I need to do in order to afford this? 

Don’t like your career and want a new one? Okay, what do I need to do to make a successful change? 

In a bad relationship? Okay, what do I need to do in order to leave, be safe, and be happy?

This simple mind frame change can drastically change your outlook on life and more importantly you start realizing that any goal you really want is now doable.

Break predefined limitations piece by piece.

You now know how to go about breaking these limits that have been rooted in your mind for years, so how can you start implementing this new strategy? Remove words like “can’t” out of your vocabulary. Then decide, okay I can do this, but should I? If you believe you should, then ask yourself what you need to do in order to accomplish that thing. Implement this everywhere from small decisions to big decisions, once you have done it long enough it will become a habit and your mind will automatically see a situation and start thinking about how it can accomplish it. This new way of thinking will continue to fuel your mind and body, giving you the confidence to take on anything you wish to take on knowing you can do it. Now, don’t think you won’t fail sometimes. Failure is a part of growth, and just because you didn’t succeed at something the first time doesn’t mean you can’t do it. All it means is that one specific method you took couldn’t do it. If that happens, step back and reevaluate what you need to do in order to be successful next time.

Push that bar out of your way.

You get to control where the standard bar is in your life: not your past, not your family, not your friends, not your co-workers, not the naysayers. No, only you get to say where it is. Predefined limitations is a real thing and it can have a lot of control over you life, but it only has as much control as you give it. Start rewiring your brain to look at situations differently and remind yourself that you are in control of your own destiny, and if you want to accomplish something then ask yourself what you are going to have to do in order to achieve it.
